San Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish made history on Wednesday, earning his 204th career win between MLB, and Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball League, the most all-time for a pitcher that played in both leagues, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today

Darvish made history with a seven-inning domination of the New York Mets on Wednesday, surrendering just two hits, and striking out seven.

Darvish spent the first seven seasons of his professional baseball career in Japan before coming to the U.S. in 2012. He was 93-38 with a 1.99 ERA in Japan while also striking out 1,250 batters in 1,268.1 innings pitched.

Since coming to Major League Baseball in 2012, Darvish has picked up where he left off in Japan. In 13 seasons, he’s been named an All-Star five times, and holds a 110-91 record with a 3.63 ERA.

Wednesday’s start could be what Darvish needs to get back on track this season. On the season, Darvish has made just five starts to the tune of a 6.42 ERA. After giving up eight runs in his last outing against the St. Louis Cardinals, Darvish bounced back nicely against the Mets to earn his record-breaking win.

The Padres will need Darvish to replicate Wednesday’s performance more often as they look to make a deep postseason run in October. At 60-49, and well within reach of the NL West division crown, getting vintage Yu Darvish could become a major factor for the team during the stretch run to the postseason.
