Shohei Ohtani's latest outing as a Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher appeared to end sooner than expected.
Accompanied by trainers, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commenced a mound visit for Ohtani in the bottom of the fourth inning, ultimately pulling Ohtani from the game after three-plus innings. It's unclear if Ohtani was injured, and if so, to what extent.
Ohtani had thrown six straight balls, two of which were wild pitches that allowed Marte to advance to third base, prior to leaving the game.
The July 30 game at Great American Ball Park was Ohtani's seventh appearance of the year after elbow surgery in 2024.
In the first inning, Ohtani allowed a leadoff double to former Dodgers teammate Gavin Lux, and Elly De La Cruz drove Lux in with an RBI single.
In the fourth inning, Ohtani left two runners on base when he departed in the middle of an at-bat by Spencer Steer. When Steer was eventually walked by Anthony Banda to load the bases with no outs, the walk was charged to Ohtani.
A Will Benson sacrifice fly to score Marte was also charged to Ohtani.
All told, Ohtani allowed two earned runs on five hits in his three-plus innings. He walked two and struck out four.
