The Chicago Sky have had a tough stretch to end July, dropping five straight games and falling to 7-18 on the 2025 WNBA season.
On Tuesday, they will get a chance to end the drought, facing the Washington Mystics on the road. But Chicago will be without a familiar face as the team decided to make some roster changes.
The Sky Part Ways With Moriah Jefferson
On Monday, the Sky took to social media to announce they have released guard Moriah Jefferson after two seasons with the team. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 WNBA draft was acquired by Chicago via trade with the Connecticut Sun during the 2024 season.
Jefferson only appeared in 19 games in two seasons with the Sky, including five this year, where she averaged 1.4 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 7.0 minutes per game.
"thank you, Mo! 🩵," the Sky wrote on X. "ROSTER UPDATE: The Chicago Sky have waived Moriah Jefferson."

The Sky Filled Jefferson's Roster Spot Quickly
Less than 30 minutes after the Sky announced the release of Jefferson, they revealed they had already filled the open roster spot, signing Sevgi Uzun to a rest-of-season contract. The Turkish guard has 47 games of WNBA experience, most recently with the Phoenix Mercury this season.
“We’re excited to add a two-way point guard in Sevgi Uzun,” Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca said. “Uzun is a complete pro who is going to immediately contribute to the Chicago Sky. She’s played at a high level in the WNBA and overseas and will continue to prove to be a strong playmaker and defender.”
The Sky will take on the Mystics on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. ET at CareFirst Arena (Washington, D.C.).
