Chicago is building for the future with Reese and Cardoso.
After a loss to the Washington Mystics on Tuesday night, the Chicago Sky fell to 7-19 in 2025. Despite a pair of double-doubles from Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, the Sky defense was gashed for 55 points in the first half on the way to a 103-86 defeat at CareFirst Arena.
Following a two-game absence to nurse a back injury, Reese returned in a big way in the nation's capital, scoring 22 points, hauling in 13 rebounds and dishing out three assists in 32 minutes of action. Frontcourt partner Cardoso notched 21 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes to grab her fourth double-double in a row -- which, despite the loss, served as encouragement to Reese that the Sky is on the right path.
While Reese is a two-time All-Star already, Cardoso's nascent WNBA career has gotten off to a rockier start. The third overall pick in the 2024 draft, Cardoso's foul troubles and inconsistent motor have inhibited her progress somewhat. But after Tuesday's display, Reese revealed to reporters that she thinks Cardoso's potential is still Sky-high.
"I tell her 'You're dominant. You're a great player. You just have to believe in yourself,'" Reese said. "I continue to put that confidence in her."
The Sky returns to Chicago on Friday to take on the Golden State Valkyries, when Cardoso will try to record a fifth successive double-double.
