The Cubs rotation needs help.
The Chicago Cubs have struggled a bit in the month of July. They watched their lead in the National League Central disappear and now are looking up at the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cubs are still only two games back of the Brewers, however. They lead the NL Wild Card race and are pointed towards the postseason.
But with the trade deadline less than 48 hours away, the Cubs are in need of starting pitching. Justin Steele is out for the year, and they have been without Jameson Taillon since early July.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report predicts that Chicago will trade for Cleveland Guardians ace Shane Bieber.
"The Guardians signed Bieber to a one-year, $10 million deal during the offseason that includes a 2026 player option worth $16 million and carrying a $4 million buyout. He has yet to pitch at the MLB level this year as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he is on the comeback trail, allowing four hits and one earned run with 14 strikeouts in 7.1 innings over his first three rehab starts," Reuter wrote.

The Guardians are likely to sell this year at the deadline. Bieber has been out since early 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery.
While Bieber is far from a sure thing, his track record precedes him. He is a former Cy Young winner and two-time All-Star.
The Cubs could use another frontline starter, and Bieber will eventually return from the injured list. If he can stay healthy, he could be a huge addition to the Cubs rotation.
This could help give the Cubs the boost they need in order to dethrone the Brewers as division champions down the stretch. Bieber also may not cost much given his recent injury history.
We'll see if the Cubs give the Guardians a call about the right-hander.
