The Reds' lineup without Friedl has Gavin Lux leading off and playing left field, with Will Benson batting eighth and playing center field.

Friedl is batting .269 with 10 homers, 36 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 459 plate appearances over 103 games this season.

Earlier in July, Reds manager Terry Francona was looking to get some of his everyday players, including Friedl, some rest at the end of a blowout loss to Miami.

FanDuel Sports Network reporter Jim Day explained that Francona tried to do right by Friedl, but wasn't aware of an important detail.

"Friedl is one of those guys they wanted to get him off his feet," Day said during the broadcast. "So he pulls him out of the game. Now TJ's wife is deep into her pregnancy. So Tito told TJ, 'Listen, just go home and be a good husband. I want you to leave the ballpark. Not just leave the game. I want you to leave the ballpark right now. And if anyone gives you grief, you tell them I told you to leave.' So about 10 minutes goes by, and TJ comes back to Tito and says, 'You know my wife is in Las Vegas, right?' Brought a chuckle to Tito who turns around and says, 'Well just go FaceTime her! Just leave!'"
