Warming Bernabel was showered with praise
Colorado Rockies Rookie Has Fans Buzzing After First Career Home Run on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Colorado Rockies promoted infielder Warming Bernabel from Triple-A Albuquerque to their major league roster on Saturday.
Bernabel, 23, spent five seasons in the minors but was never consistently able to produce a quality amount of hits and runs due to injuries.
However, that changed on Friday when Colorado opened a spot on its roster after trading third baseman Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees for two pitching prospects.
“There’s a lot of emotions,” Bernabel said during an interview with MLB reporter Paige Leckie after receiving the promotion. “Memories from when I was a kid, all the way to now, the good and bad and all the stuff I’ve been through. Started crying and let a lot of emotions out.”
Bernabel made his major-league debut on Saturday in the second game of the Rockies' three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles. He recorded his first major league hit, although his team lost 18-0.
However, during Sunday’s game, things changed during the second inning when Bernabel blasted a pitch to left field to record his first MLB home run. His solo home run traveled 385 feet on 98.3 miles per hour of exit velocity as he trotted the bases and made his way to home plate.
Bernabel’s first home run received multiple reactions from fans on X.
