Something about this month.
In the Bronx, the dog days of summer don't wait until August.
The New York Yankees have a July problem.
Their loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night clinched a losing record in this month.
It's now three months of July in a row that the Yankees have finished with a losing mark.
It's highly unusual. From 1993 through 2022, the Yankees never had a losing record in July, a span of 30 years in a row, per Bronx Bombers News.
It's hard to trace a statistic like this to any one thing.
Yankees fans, naturally, will want to blame manager Aaron Boone. But he's the manager in all the other months, too, believe it or not.

There might be something to the idea that some attrition has set in but the Yankees haven't yet made whatever their pre-trade deadline deal might be. They should hit the ground running in August if they acquire good players at the end of July.
It also could just be fluky, the vagaries of baseball showing up in the same month three seasons in a row.
Whatever the reason, though. It's not ideal. And for another season now, the Yankees will need to rediscover themselves as the calendar turns to August.
