While few saw it coming, the Detroit Tigers enter the July 31 MLB trade deadline with the confidence of being in first place of the American League Central division. Though, their eight-game lead doesn’t provide enough space to relax as teams such as the Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals, and Minnesota Twins lurk in the shadows too.
Plus, the other potential contenders in the division could be eyeing some significant shakeups ahead of the deadline. So it’s no surprise to see that the Tigers are hunting for upgrades too.
According to USA Today’s MLB expert Bob Nightengale, the Tigers are one of several “strong suitors” to trade for Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star Eugenio Suarez.
“The Detroit Tigers, one of the strong suitors for Diamondbacks All Star 3B Eugenio Suarez, would love to finalize a deal before Suarez leaves town Wednesday. The DBacks are in Detroit for 3-game series.”

Suarez has been one of the most popular names ahead of the MLB trade deadline and is a prime candidate to be moved. Despite recently turning 34 years old, Suarez is enjoying a career year with 36 home runs through 104 games played.
The two-time All-Star is in the final year of his contract, where he’s set to earn $15 million this season. Thus, it makes far more sense for the Diamondbacks to get something for Suarez now, rather than nothing for him later.
