Coach Sark is looking towards the future!
Steve Sarkisian & Texas Longhorns Plan For Post-Arch Manning Era originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are looking to live their natty dreams with Arch Manning at the helm this year. However, they are also looking at life after the 21-year-old quarterback takes his talents to the NFL.
Manning is seen as a generational talent. That last name lends a certain air to him that extremely few athletes, let alone quarterbacks, have the luxury of. Thus, picking the one to succeed him would be just as important.
It would appear that the Texas Longhorns have their eyes set on two quarterbacks from the 2027 recruiting class, and they have extended an offer to both of them.
First on their list is Peyton Houston, a 4-star prospect out of Evangel Christian Academy, Cotton Valley, Los Angeles. On3 predicts he'll be going to USC, but the Longhorns have the second-best odds to bring him to Austin.
Second on their list is in-state talent Kavian Bryant out of Palestine High School, East Texas. Another blockbuster prospect at quarterback who has been a highly recruited athlete. Again, in his case, the Longhorns have an uphill battle as per the On3 predictor, where Texas A&M, Texas Tech, SMU, and Michigan have a better chance at his commitment.
However, if this year goes well for the Longhorns and Manning leads them to the success promised and expected from him, Texas will become a serious hotspot for top high school recruits. More than it already is.
Texas stands at a unique position where they have a chance to dethrone the Big Ten from the national championship and become the face of the SEC. Despite being a recent entrant, they are already one of the strongest programs.
The Alabama Crimson Tide has been the face of the conference in the recent past. But given that they are at a transitional phase and might take another year to get back to glory days, Texas has a much better chance at being accepted as the SEC's favorite team.
Getting atop the SEC pyramid could bolster their repute amongst the recruits, and they could bag either of the above quarterbacks in the next class.
