We're almost a week into training camp, and there are several players from last year's New Orleans Saints team who are still looking for work.
The NFL is now almost a week into training camp, but not every team is finished filling out its roster. The New Orleans Saints are still on the lookout for new talent, and some of their old players are still looking for work. Inevitable injuries and depth chart shuffling could open up opportunities for guys without a team for 2025. In some cases, a reunion in New Orleans might make sense, but first-year head coach Kellen Moore and his staff are clearly shaking up what the Saints look for in building this team.
Here are four players from last year's Saints squad who have yet to sign with a new team, per Spotrac:
RB Jamaal Williams
There was a bit of excitement surrounding the signing of Williams back in 2023, as he was fresh off of a 17-touchdown campaign with the Detroit Lions. He never really got going with New Orleans as he had just 154 carries for 470 yards with two touchdowns over his two seasons with the Saints.
Last year, he played in 14 games with one start and played in a career-low 178 snaps on offense.
FB Adam Prentice
Unfortunately for Prentice, it is getting harder and harder for fullbacks to find jobs in the NFL. Offenses are working away from that position, including the Saints after shifting to the Kellen Moore offense.
Prentice spent four years in New Orleans, mostly on the field as a blocker. He has nine career rushes for 26 yards and eight catches for 37 yards. Eight of his 17 touches went for first downs. He played a career-high 17 games and 272 snaps in 2024.
OT Justin Herron
Herron was brought in last year for offensive line depth and was lost early on due to injury. He suffered a knee injury early in training camp and was placed on the injured reserve, which ended his season.
The 29-year-old has played 778 career snaps with the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders.
C Shane Lemieux
After playing out his rookie contract as a depth player for the New York Giants, Lemieux was signed by the Saints last year and he ended up playing a big part in the offense due to injuries across the line.
He was never going to be able to replace Erik McCoy fully, but his struggles did stand out during the seven games he appeared in. Overall, he played 338 snaps, which is the second-highest mark of his career.
Which recent roster cuts are still available?
A handful of players were let go this summer and remain on the free agent market, including safety Millard Bradford, cornerback Travion Fluellen, running back Xazavian Valladay, and offensive lineman Josh Ball.
