Former Michigan basketball player Gregg Glenn III dead in 'tragic accident'

Greg Glenn III spent one year in Ann Arbor before transferring to Tulane, where he became a starter in 2024-25 and averaged 10.6 points.

Former Michigan basketball player Gregg Glenn III died over the weekend in a "tragic accident." He was 22-years-old.

A one-time Wolverine, he transferred to Tulane after his freshman season. The university shared the news in a release on Monday morning.

"It is with profound sadness that I reach out to you today. We have lost a cherished member of our university community, Gregg Glenn III, who died in a tragic accident this weekend," wrote Sarah Cunningham Tulane's Vice President of Student Affairs. "He was a talented student-athlete who enriched our lives with his spirit, dedication, and passion for both sports and academics.

"Gregg was an outstanding athlete on our men’s basketball team and an individual who brought joy and light to those around him. His commitment to excellence inspired many of us."

At 6 feet 7 and 230 pounds, the Pompano Beach, Florida, native committed to former U-M coach Juwan Howard in the class of 2022. He played in four games and a total of 11 minutes in his lone season in Ann Arbor, he averaged 1.5 points per contest.

Glenn came into his own at Tulane this past year. After playing a bit less than 10 minutes per game as a sophomore at with the Green Wave, he moved into a prominent role in 2024-25, playing and starting all 34 games last season.

Glenn played 26.7 minutes per night as he averaged 10.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game on an efficient 49.8% shooting clip from the floor. He scored in double figures 21 times, had three double-doubles and was twice named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll (Jan. 27, March 3).

Prior to his collegiate career, Glenn was a four-star recruit in the class of 2022 out of Calvary Christian Academy, where he was named too the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches All-State team three times. He also helped Team USA to win a gold medal in the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Brazil.

"Known for his infectious personality, positive energy, and kindness, he brightened every room he entered," wrote Cunningham. "Well known in the South Florida area for his basketball prowess, he will be greatly missed by many."

Glenn is the son of Tritina Stephens and Gregg Glenn Jr.
