Tracking Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter during training camp.
There was one significant play for Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter on July 28, the team's first training camp practice in full pads.
Hunter lined up at wide receiver during an 11-on-11 period at the Miller Electric Center and on a running play by Tank Bigsby, ran into defensive end Travon Walker.
Hunter, 6 feet 1 and 185 pounds, was nearly bent over backwards by Walker, 6-5 and 272. But coach Liam Coen said Hunter had a good explanation.
“He [Walker] was standing up and Travis is in a tight bunch when we're running duo," Coen said. "And Travis has to go block Jourdan Lewis who's kind of stacked behind Travon. I just saw Travon continuing to widen out and just put his hands right in Travis' head. [Hunter] goes, ‘hey, he took himself out of the play.’ So yeah, good answer.”
It was a scary and humorous moment at the same time as Hunter simply bounced off Walker.
How many snaps did Travis Hunter play?
Hunter had his lightest overall day in training camp. He returned to offense after two consecutive practices on defense and through five days of camp, has played offense three days and defense twice.
Hunter still hasn't played both sides of the ball in team periods (11-on-11 and 7-on-7) in the same practice.
Offense: Hunter had 12 snaps in team periods, his lightest day of camp. He had 14 offensive snaps on the first day on July 23 and 22 on offense the next day. He was targeted twice and caught two passes on back-to-back plays, both short passes from Trevor Lawrence. Hunter has caught every pass thrown to him in team periods so far, on seven targets.
Hunter had two reps during a drill in which wide receivers ran patterns against defensive backs. A deep pass went off his fingertips and he caught a slant pass, both against cornerback Jourdan Lewis.
Defense: Hunter worked with secondary coach Ron Milus on his footwork as a cornerback during a special-teams period.
What are Travis Hunter's total snaps?
Offense: 48 snaps, seven targets, seven receptions.
Defense: 47 snaps, thrown against five times, allowed to completions, broke up three passes.
