The Boston Red Sox need more bats, and one MLB insider thinks a $24 million rival slugger would be a good fit for the team.
The Boston Red Sox have had a rollercoaster season, and it started away when first basemen Triston Casas suffered a season-ending left patellar tendon rupture.
With the Red Sox in position to make the playoffs as of right now, the team has to make an upgrade at first base during this week's trade deadline.
Boston hasn't made the playoffs since 2021, and they better find a way to do it this season.
One way the Red Sox can play meaningful October games is to upgrade their roster, and Buster Olney from ESPN thinks the team should try to trade for Tampa Bay Rays slugger Yandy Diaz.
"The Tampa Bay Rays' struggles over the past month have really surprised other teams -- and the Rays' staffers, too -- and now they could shift to become dealers at the deadline. Tampa Bay first baseman Yandy Diaz would be an absolutely perfect fit for the Boston Red Sox," Olney wrote. "He's making $10 million this year (the Red Sox would be on the hook for about a third of that), and he has a very attractive $12 million option for 2026."

Diaz's three-year, $24 million contract ends after this season, but with two club options in 2026 and 2027, the Red Sox could want him.
It will be challenging for Boston to pull off the trade for Diaz, given that both teams are in the same division, which could result in a significant cost.
