How much would the Crimson Tide football program be worth on the hypothetical market? Check out the dazzling numbers.

Forget the 9-3 season in 2024; is there a bigger brand in college sports than Alabama Crimson Tide football?

Well, for starters, their nickname is a catastrophic weather event, and their mascot is the largest living land animal on earthplanet. Not too shabby if you want to be the biggest thing around.

But according to new research from reporter Matt Baker and the sports business experts at The Athletic, the Tide are not only not No. 1 in the nation -- they aren't even No. in the SEC based on a specific but increasingly relevant, consequential metric:

Going off estimated program valuations, Bama football is worth nearly $1.75 billion. That's an incredibly huge number.

But it lags far behind the leaders of the pack here and now.

College Football Team Values 2025

Program valuations via The Athletic as of July 21, 2025.

School

Est. Valuation

1. Texas Longhorns

$2.38B

2. Georgia Bulldogs

$1.92B

3. Ohio State Buckeyes

$1.9B

4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

$1.85B

5. Michigan Wolverines

$1.83B

6. Alabama Crimson Tide

$1.74B

7. Oklahoma Sooners

$1.49B

8. USC Trojans

$1.4B

9. Tennessee Volunteers

$1.37B

10. LSU Tigers

$1.23B

If it's any consolation, age-old Iron Bowl rivals Auburn are merely 13th on The Athletic's list, at $1.06 billion. The Tigers are actually the lowest-ranked program that nonetheless clocks in above the billion-dollar mark.

So, what are we to make of this number as it relates to the Crimson Tide? As a relative distinction, as estimated by Forbes, $1.74 billion makes Bama commensurate in value with:

  • San Diego Padres (MLB, $1.75 billion)
  • Baltimore Orioles (MLB, $1.71 billion)
  • Atlético Madrid (La Liga, $1.7 billion)

...And noticeably more valuable than:

  • AC Milan (Serie A, $1.5 billion)
  • Inter Milan (Serie A, $1.15 billion)
  • West Ham United (Premier League, $1.13 billion)
  • Newcastle United (Premier League, $1.1 billion)
  • 12 MLB clubs: Brewers, Rockies, Tigers, Twins, Diamondbacks, Pirates, Guardians, Rays, Royals, Reds, Athletics, Marlins

Sure, there's room to climb, Tide fans. But something tells me that if you get back in gear and raise gridiron hell all the way to the College Football Playoff after one season of post-Nick Saban transition, next year's numbers promise to look a whole lot different.
