Dolphins Sign CB Jack Jones in Wake of Artie Burns Injury

The Miami Dolphins signed cornerback Jack Jones Saturday morning, adding talent and depth to the position after cornerback Artie Burns' season ending injury.

The Miami Dolphins had an obvious weakness at the cornerback position after the trade of Pro-Bowler Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers. That weakness only grew earlier this week when offseason addition Artie Burns suffered a torn ACL at practice.

Dolphins' head coach Mike McDaniel said earlier this week the Dolphins were confident in the young guys in their cornerback room, but they are always looking to improve. Since those comments, the Dolphins have made two additions to the group, with the latest being cornerback Jack Jones.

Jones played with the Las Vegas Raiders last season and collected 69 tackles, three tackles for loss, 16 passes defended, and three interceptions, including a pick-six. Jones is a bit of a boom or bust player, as he can give up the big play, but he also led the NFL with three pick-sixes over the last two years, and his 16 passes defended ranked inside the top 10 in the NFL in 2024.

Prior to the Raiders, Jones started his career with the New England Patriots. The Patriots drafted the Arizona State product in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Jones played in 18 games for the Patriots, accumulating 42 tackles, seven passes defended, three TFLs, two interceptions, and a forced fumble and recovery.

Jones was released by the Patriots a week after missing curfew the night before a game, and the Raiders claimed him off waivers the next day. After starting 16 games for Las Vegas in 2024, the Raiders released Jones on April 7 after failed attempts to trade the cornerback.

Jones is the second cornerback addition in a matter of days for the Dolphins, who signed Cornell Armstrong on Thursday. Armstrong was drafted by the Dolphins in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft and now reunites with the team.

The Dolphins' cornerback room now consists of Jones, Kader Kohou, Storm Duck, Cam Smith, Kendall Sheffield, Jason Marshall Jr., Armstrong, Ethan Bonner, Isaiah Johnson, Ethan Robinson, and BJ Adams. The Dolphins cut Ryan Cooper to make room for Jones.

Jones should bring an experienced, veteran presence to a young cornerback room, and figures to slot in as one of the Dolphins' top guys.

However, as if the Dolphins hadn't dealt with enough cornerback trouble already, Kohou limped off the field at Saturday morning's practice after covering receiver Tyreek Hill. According to Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, it's a right leg injury, but there's no further information at this point.

The addition of Jones to the Dolphins' cornerback room is much needed, but Miami can't continue to lose players to injury already.
