Shedeur Sanders Makes Strong Statement On Field Amid Low Ranking on Browns QB Depth Chart

Shedeur Sanders might still be alive in the Cleveland Browns' four-QB race.

After a dramatic slide in the 2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders is trying to prove himself again with the Cleveland Browns. It's been a couple months since he went from being considered a top-five pick to a top-20 selection to becoming a fifth-rounder (No. 144 overall pick), with Sanders using everything as motivation.

The Browns have a four-man quarterback race for the 2025 season, with the former Colorado Buffaloes star currently ranked fourth behind Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, respectively.

Up until Friday, Sanders hadn't taken any first-team reps, which sparked questions among fans and analysts. He took the field on Saturday, taking part in 7-on-7 drills and making a statement with the opportunity he was given.

Browns reporter Brad Stainbrook shared a clip of Sanders connecting with one of his receivers in the end zone during Saturday practice. The rookie quarterback threw a dart that beat the defender and put the receiver in a privileged position to score.

It seems Sanders is facing an uphill battle with two veteran quarterbacks and a rookie drafted before him higher on the depth chart. When asked about the lack of first-team reps, Deion Sanders' son said he wasn't thinking much about it and was thankful for the opportunity to be a part of an NFL franchise.

"I don't think my place, you know, to answer it, to even be able to give the answer to that," Sanders said. "I feel like it's not in my control. So I'm not even going to think about that or have that even in my thought process. … Lot of people that want to have the opportunity to be at this level and I'm here and I'm thankful to have the opportunity."

If he keeps showing off his accuracy and gets more opportunities in practice and preseason games, the depth chart might change and Sanders could climb positions.
