Which Jacksonville Jaguars jerseys are best: teal, black or throwback? Cast your vote!

The Jacksonville Jaguars have had many different looks throughout their history. They brought back one of their earliest jerseys last year to much acclaim. Is the throwback their best uniform?

The "Prowler" throwbacks harken back to the 1990s when the Jags broke into the NFL with two AFC championship appearances in their first five seasons. Ever since their first game in 1995, the Jaguars have featured teal and black to serenades of "DUUUVAL" from their wild fans.

Jacksonville has changed its uniform set several times in the intervening years, returning to the AFC championship in 2017 wearing a ... let's call it bold ... two-toned black-and-gold helmet. The following year, they switched to their current set, a more even-keeled design that has removed gold entirely. It also features several different combinations: The 2024 season saw 12 distinct looks between teal, white and black jerseys, pants and helmets across 17 games.

Which one is best? We pulled out seven uniform combos from the Jags' current set for this exercise. Our grades are below, followed by a poll so you can cast your vote:

Teal jersey/white pants

Nothing flashy, but this is a look that works. Its more simplistic design (no pants stripe, no drop shadow or outline around the numbers) is refreshing after the overstimulation brought by the previous generation of uniforms. The downside is the no-frills idea means the teal jersey is the only part that really stands out, and the black collar doesn't really add much. Grade: B-

Teal jersey/black pants

We like the black pants over the teal ones because that's way too much teal at once. The black pants work off the helmet better than the white and makes the jerseys pop just a little more. The subtle black stripes on the arm holes don't stick out as much for some reason, but they don't do much on the teal tops anyway. Grade: B

White jersey/black pants

Needs some color, no? Some teams can make a basic color palette work, but even the Raiders pair their white and black with bold splashes of silver. The Jaguars' signature teal most prominently appears on their logo's tongue when they wear black or white pants on their road unis. Grade: C-

White jersey/teal pants

That's better, though something is still off with this road combo. Maybe it's the reluctance to go with a complete collar; why does it look like the Jaguars are carrying bull horns on their shoulders? Grade: C+

Black jersey/teal pants

This is the look that best utilizes the teal pants. The splash on the arm stripes is just enough against the black jersey to pair well with the colorful bottom half. This is the Jags' best look when they opt for the black jerseys, even though the all-black look certainly has its fans, but they haven't broken out this combo since 2022. Incidentally, that's the last time Jacksonville made the playoffs. Grade: B

Throwbacks

The Jaguars brought these beauties back for a reason. Every detail is an improvement on the team's other options, starting with the use of gold as a highlight. No other Jags look has gotten gold right quite like this one. The prowling jaguar on the sleeves is a perfect accoutrement, and even the font is fun yet classy enough to fit with football's traditional vibes. Teal haters might recoil, but they're missing out. Grade: A

Ice white helmets

The throwback jerseys weren't all the Jaguars broke out in 2024. This was the first time Jacksonville used a white helmet, and it worked well as a debut effort. The black jersey was the right one to pair it with, as the splashes of teal work well off each other. We'd love to see how this combo looks with the teal pants. Grade: B
