SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Showing what you are made of, pushing your limits, and, for those over 21, getting a free beer: That was the goal on Sunday for many runners in Scranton.
The Iron Horse 8K took over the Montage Mountain Resorts on Sunday.
Nearly 200 runners came out to try their hand at conquering the course through scenic mountain terrain.
The trail race’s elevation and distance are known for offering quite the challenge.
It is also known for having quite the reward for runners to celebrate their achievement; a free beer at Midland after the race.
But the end does not come easily; even experienced runners say it is a struggle.
“It wasn’t intimidating at first, I thought it was gonna be easy cause I run 10ks like every week, and it turned out to be way more than that. Less miles, but harder,” Peckville 8K Racing Participant Seth Gatlin told 28/22 News.
“It was brutal, the weather was terrible right before, so it rained, the rocks were real loose, a lot of people fell, including me, but that’s part of the fun, you know, just get up, keep running. Gotta get a free beer at the end, so half the reason why we show up,” Andy Goggins, an 8K Racing Participant from Peckville, said.
All runners also received a complimentary t-shirt and free admission to the Montage Mountain Waterpark after the race.
