NBA insider believes the end is near the 76ers' Joel Embiid

A Philadelphia 76ers insider believes that Joel Embiid's career may be near its end.

The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off a disappointing year in the 2024-25 season.

Finishing with a 24-58 record, Philadelphia's core superstars in Tyrese Maxey (29 games missed), Paul George (41 games missed), and Joel Embiid (63 games missed) weren't able to stay on the court, resulting in an underwhelming season.

While Paul George and Tyrese Maxey look to return to full health for the start of the 2025-26 season, a lot of speculation surrounds the status of Joel Embiid, as the 2023 MVP has struggled to stay on the court in recent years.

Embiid, 31, has combined for just 58 total games in the last two regular seasons. He has made his injury struggles public as well.

Before getting shut down for the 76ers' last month and a half of the regular season last year, Embiid spoke on his struggles to stay healthy in recent years.

"The way I was playing a year ago, it's not the way I'm playing right now. It sucks. But I believe ... I probably need to fix the problem and then I'll be back at that level, but it's hard to have trust when you're not yourself." Embiid said. "It's tough. You know you can do so much more."

76ers insider Keith Pompey spoke on what he thinks of Embiid's future in the NBA, and it may not be what fans want to hear.

"I think Joel (Embiid) might know the end is near... Rarely do you have a guy tell you how much pain he's in and how much they're going through," Pompey said on SiriusXM NBA Radio on Sunday.

Since entering the league in 2014, the 76ers' center has missed 400 games in his career and has played in 446. He's had multiple injuries to both of his knees and also missed his first two seasons in the league while dealing with a foot fracture.
