As the 2025 MLB trade deadline nears, the theoretical proposals grow crazier and crazier. Piggybacking off the San Diego Padres' interest in Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, Bowden proposes an insane three-team trade to satisfy both squads’ deadline needs. In Bowden’s proposed blockbuster trade, the Red Sox land Miami Marlins starter Edward Cabrera, the Padres receive outfielder Jarren Duran, and the Marlins acquire top catching prospect Ethan Salas (Padres’ No. 2) along with right-handed pitcher Luis Perales (Red Sox’s No. 9).

As the 2025 MLB trade deadline nears, the theoretical proposals grow crazier and crazier. While it is fun to speculate which moves could happen, most are made out of just that — pure speculation.

However, when former MLB general manager and current insider for The Athletic, Jim Bowden, proposes a trade, more weight is attached to the possibility of such moves occurring.

Three-team trades are rare but not unimaginable. However, as Bowden points out, the Red Sox would need to be satisfied with Cabrera’s medical report. The 27-year-old recently underwent an MRI on his right elbow and has had various injuries throughout his career.

Cabrea, if healthy, would be a tremendous addition to the backend of Boston's rotation. In 17 starts, he has a 3.48 ERA and 92 strikeouts across 88 innings. Yet, it is hard to justify trading Duran for such a small package of players or only to receive Cabrera in return. Although Duran and Cabrera still have multiple years of team control remaining, Boston would likely want more in return for their former All-Star, especially after already turning down a deal to acquire starting pitcher Dylan Cease and Salas from the Padres.
