The Boston Red Sox, according to Sean McAdam of Masslive.com, "quickly rejected" a trade offer from the San Diego Padres for Jarren Duran.

The Boston Red Sox have been fielding calls for outfielder Jarren Duran ahead of the trade deadline. With a crowded outfield, the Red Sox are open to moving Duran to land a haul to help elsewhere on the roster.
But, they won't settle for a lackluster deal. According to Sean McAdam of Masslive.com, the Red Sox didn't settle for the offer the San Diego Padres put together for Duran amid their consistent pursuit of the outfielder.
"The Padres," McAdam writes, "in their never-ending quest to acquire Duran, proposed a package involving Cease, catching prospect Ethan Salas, and another prospect (not shortstop Leo de Vries) for Duran, which was quickly rejected."
Boston rejected the Padres' blockbuster offer for Duran, featuring starting pitcher Dylan Cease, Padres No. 2 prospect Ethan Salas, and another prospect, likely in the top ten of the Padres system.
On the surface, it's a lot to turn down, but there's a good reason for the Red Sox to make such a decision. Duran is under team control through 2028, while Cease is a free agent after this season.
According to McAdam, the Red Sox are pursuing starting pitching and are interested in Cease but won't move Duran for him or any rental pitcher.
Craig Breslow and the Red Sox are looking to buy and could land a top pitcher who's controllable beyond 2025, using Duran. Cease isn't such a pitcher, and Salas is dealing with a stress reaction in his back.
This offer might seem strong on the surface, but with Cease struggling this season (4.59 ERA and a 3-10 record in 21 starts), and Salas bailing up, there's little reason for the Red Sox to accept such an offer.
Boston's "quick rejection" of the Padres' offer makes a lot of sense. The players the Red Sox would get aren't terrible, but in exchange for Duran, it doesn't translate to short-term and long-term success.
The Padres offered a blockbuster, but the Red Sox turned it down. With less than a week until the trade deadline, barring the Padres adding even more to this deal, the chances of Duran heading to San Diego look slim.
