VfB Stuttgart key player Angelo Stiller is doubtful for the Europa League match at Roma on Thursday.
Coach Sebastian Hoeness said in a news conference on Wednesday that the likelihood of the midfielder playing is "rather low" and that he didn't train with the team a day before the match.
"Angelo wants to play and if there's a chance, he's going to take it," Hoeness said.
On Sunday, during the 1-1 draw with Union Berlin, Stiller was substituted due to groin discomfort. He will continue to receive treatment and undergo further examination.
Thursday's match offers important points as Stuttgart aim to qualify directly to the last 16. They are currently ninth and need to finish in the top eight to achieve this goal.
"We have to acknowledge that it's positive that we're talking about direct qualification. We can only control how we collect points. Most likely, four points will be needed to advance directly to the knock-out round," Hoeness said.
