According to a recent report from SPORT, Barcelona have taken an important first step in tracking one of Brazil’s most exciting young talents.
The Catalan club have made contact with the representatives of Eduardo Conceicao, a highly rated 16-year-old striker currently developing at Palmeiras.
While nothing is imminent, Barça intend to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to elite South American prospects.
It must be noted that as part of their annual scouting routine, Barcelona once again sent a member of their coaching staff to São Paulo.
Importantly, though, the outlet suggests that Barcelona’s interest in Conceicao did not begin during this year’s Copinha.
Reports from within the club indicate that highly positive internal assessments had already been compiled during his time with the Palmeiras Under-17 side.
There is a history
The interest became more concrete in December, when Conceicao’s agents were invited to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.
During their visit, meetings took place with Joao Amaral, who has been leading Barcelona’s scouting department, as well as with Deco, the club’s sporting director.
At those meetings, Barcelona made it clear that the young forward was under observation and considered a serious future prospect.
However, any potential operation is far from straightforward. This is because Conceicao recently signed a new contract with Palmeiras that runs until January 2029.
The Brazilian club have protected themselves with a hefty €100 million release clause, meaning that any future exit would require direct negotiations with the club.
So what now?
From Barcelona’s perspective, Conceicao is seen as a medium-term investment rather than an immediate target.
Due to FIFA regulations, he cannot move to Europe until January 2028, when he turns 18.
By that point, Barça believe their financial situation will be significantly stronger, allowing them to compete more confidently in the market. For now, the club has no plans to make a formal move during 2026.
That said, Barcelona are well aware of the growing threat from the Premier League, as English clubs are aggressively scouting South America.
If Barça want to stay in the race, Conceicao and those around him will need to remain patient amid inevitable external interest.
