The Texas Longhorns enter the 2025 season as one of the most intriguing teams in college football. Much of the attention revolves around a promising but unproven quarterback named Arch Manning.
As early as his sophomore year in high school, Manning drew national attention for his play on the field. His family's football acumen only amplified the spotlight on the polarizing player. Though the third-generation Manning football star has taken some undue criticism, his upside has the college football world buzzing. The Longhorns expected to start the season ranked No. 1 nationally due in large part to Manning's potential.
Former Texas quarterback Vince Young understands the expectations that have been placed on Arch. Young shared his impression of Manning heading into the 2025 season.
"One thing that about Arch that I really like, that he's, you know, a very humble kid. You know, first of all, he has won the locker room already. And then (he's) seen it, you know, from Quinn (Ewers)."
Young opined that watching how Ewers dealt with adversity could prepare Manning for more success.
"I really feel like (Ewers) played through pain, through injuries, went through all kind of adversity, the media bashing him," Young shared. "When I was there, I saw that same situation with Chris Simms."
Young added that Manning's front row seat to Ewers' adversity could be instructive for how to play at the college level.
Whether or not Manning will have as successful a third season in Austin as Young is still to be determined, but Arch has traits that could lead to a breakout campaign in 2025. He will open the season against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Aug. 30.
