Former Tampa Bay Lightning assistant equipment manager Jason Berger will be joining former Lightning Assistant General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations, Mathieu Darche, on the New York Islanders, according to The Hockey News' Stefen Rosner.
Berger has been working with the Lightning as the assistant equipment manager since 2017, winning two Stanley Cups with the franchise. Prior to working with the Lightning, Berger was the head equipment manager of the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL and the Providence Bruins in the AHL. He also worked with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL for one season.
Berger will now join the Islanders as their head equipment manager, doing so for the first time at the NHL level.
Darche was hired as the GM and Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations this off-season by the Islanders after working with the Lightning for six seasons. His brief time with the Islanders has been widely considered a success, reshaping their prospect pool in one draft and making solid moves to help the future outlook of their team.
