Mikel Arteta hailed the impact of both Gabriel Jesus and Viktor Gyokeres in helping his side secure a statement victory over Serie A leaders Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Jesus scored twice before substitute Gyokeres added another in a 3-1 win at San Siro to secure Arsenal a top two league stage finish in the competition.

“He’s an unbelievable player,” Arteta said on Jesus.

“The bigger the game is, the more comfortable he plays.

“I’m so happy for him. I think he deserves the man of the match award not only for the goals but for the work that he’s done.

“But not just him, many of the players. Otherwise you don’t win at San Siro.”

Gyokeres scored his ninth goal of the season in all competitions for the club since his summer move from Sporting CP, but Arteta believes his latest strike could be an important one for the forward.

“A great impact,” Arteta said. “The game was taking a shape that fits him very much.

“He had two big chances, he put one away and I think he really helped the team.

“Very important (goal). It’s the second away game he’s done really well and now he’s finding some consistency.

“He brings something very special to the team. It was some finish and very happy for him as well.”

On what pleased him most about the win, Arteta responded: “The courage, the attitude, the willingness to go to another level.

“We’ve done it at home against two top sides this season in the competition but to do it at the San Siro against the best team in Serie A, and one of the best teams in Europe, it’s something else.”

Meanwhile, youngster Ethan Nwaneri has been linked with a loan move to Marseille but Arteta says a final decision on whether he will leave will be taken this week.

“I don’t know. We have a discussion this week,” Arteta said.

“Obviously he’s not having the minutes that probably he deserves as well and he needs at his age so we will address the situation and see what is best.

“Let’s see. We have to sit down and discuss how we want to move that forward.”
