Man United stance on Manuel Ugarte revealed amid Ajax loan interest

Manchester United have remained quiet so far this January, but there has been a proposal put forward for Manuel Ugarte. Earlier in the month, reports suggested that Ugarte was considering an exit from United after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have remained quiet so far this January, but there has been a proposal put forward for Manuel Ugarte.

Earlier in the month, reports suggested that Ugarte was considering an exit from United after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim was not able to get the best out of him, and now it is Michael Carrick’s task to try and unlock the £42 million midfielder’s potential.

If United are going to bring anyone in this window, it will likely be another midfielder, but that could depend on who leaves.

Now, Ajax have shown interest in Manuel Ugarte, and United have already responded to their approach.

With Kobbie Mainoo back in form, Ugarte has slipped further down the midfield hierarchy at Old Trafford.

But according to The Athletic, United are not looking to move him on just yet and have turned down Ajax’s approach.

The Dutch side were looking for a loan deal, holding off on permanent signings until Jordi Cruyff takes over as sporting director next month.

United are in a similar position. Ineos are holding off on any significant moves until a new head coach comes in after Carrick, which is why this window looks quiet.

Manuel Ugarte facing critical spell to salvage Manchester United career

After his arrival, there was talk that Ugarte would provide the defensive strength United’s midfield had been missing. But so far, he has not quite lived up to those expectations.

The same uncertainty has been shared by many in the United fanbase. Under Erik ten Hag and Amorim, the 24-year-old Uruguayan never really settled into a clear role or found consistent form.

Ironically, some of his better moments have come under Darren Fletcher’s interim management. The recent performance against Burnley was a reminder of what he is capable of when things click.

If Carrick continues to move towards a midfield three, there might still be a path forward for Ugarte at Old Trafford.

But with just 16 games left in the season, time is not on his side. He will need to take every chance he gets between now and then if he wants to stay part of Manchester United’s plans beyond this campaign.
