As the July 31 trade deadline nears, the Arizona Diamondbacks are emerging as one of the more intriguing teams to watch.

Despite ranking among the league's top five runs scored and home runs, Arizona is hovering around the .500 mark all season. It's mainly due to a pitching staff that hasn't been able to match the lineup's output.

With postseason hopes fading, the Diamondbacks are reportedly leaning toward selling, and at least one name on the roster is drawing attention that's not Eugenio Suárez.

Outfielder Loudes Gurriel Jr. has generated interest from a "few teams," according to John Gambadoro of 98.7 Arizona Sports. Gurriel, 31, is in the second year of a three-year, $42 million contract. Gurriel's modest salary and offensive versatility make him an appealing trade target for contenders looking for low-cost outfield help.

He's batting .245/.295/.406 overall, but his .278/.331/.398 line against left-handed pitching suggests he could contribute in the right situation.

While Gurriel's name hasn't been at the forefront of trade chatter, his contract could be one of the more movable ones on the roster. Whether the Diamondbacks would be willing to absorb money or attach prospects to offload it remains to be seen.

Arizona's front office may wait to see if bigger pieces like Suárez or Zac Gallen generate the offers they're looking for. But for now, Gurriel joins a growing list of Diamondbacks players being monitored by rival clubs ahead of the deadline.
