Boston has plenty of work to do.
The Boston Celtics have some key issues as they look ahead to next season.
Over the next few weeks, the Celtics will be gearing up for one of the most interesting seasons in Boston in recent memory. After Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles in the playoffs, the Celtics have been in mini-teardown mode.
Brad Stevens has effectively broken up the team’s 2024 championship core, sending out Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. Meanwhile, the team has already lost Luke Kornet in free agency and is likely to lose Al Horford as well.
Simply looking at the team’s departures, there is a clear issue with the team going into next season. The Celtics’ lack of capable frontcourt players could easily be their downfall next season.
As Jaylen Brown and Derrick White will look to carry the brunt of the load on the wing, Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale recently tabbed Boston as one of the league’s most confusing rosters because of the rest of the lineup.
“Beantown's 4-5 rotation is currently populated by Sam Hauser, Georges Niang, Xavier Tillman, Neemias Queta, Josh Minnott and Luka Garza,” Favale wrote.
While it could be easy to still be talked into the Celtics because of their star power with the 2024 Finals MVP running the show, everything else seems like a mess. Considering Boston wants to be back in contention upon Tatum’s return, this will have to be a temporary mess.
With 2027 in mind for any significant roster moves, there might not be an immediate path to fixing Boston’s frontcourt. Still, with how weak the East might be next season, the Celtics could make some noise, even if their roster is rather confusing at best.
