Germany's Winter Olympics hopeful Kai Wissmann has made his comeback for Eisbären (Polar Bears) Berlin after months out injured.
The Berlin captain, regarded alongside NHL star Moritz Seider as Germany's leading defensive hope for the Winter Olympics in Milan next month, even scored for the German champions in his first game of the season. He could not prevent Sunday's 5-2 defeat at Grizzlys Wolfsburg.
Wissmann sustained an Achilles tendon injury during close-season training.
However, national coach Harold Kreis kept a place open for the best German defenceman in the German league and already named him in the squad for the Games starting in three weeks in Italy.
Kreis had expected Wissmann's comeback in December. The 29-year-old now has only three more league games before the Olympics.
