After a very active first few weeks in the portal, the Buffs made another splash. Colorado is bringing in Richard Young, an Alabama running back transfer who fits what new offensive coordinator Brennan Marion wants in his Go Go offense and gives the room another real playmaker.

Young arrives in Boulder as a 6’0, 220 pound bruiser with two years of eligibility remaining. On paper and on tape he is the biggest and strongest back Colorado has added this offseason, and he brings an SEC level baseline of power and contact balance. Young can be the every down option who handles the bulk of the carries, finishes drives in the red zone, and sets up the shot plays Marion loves to dial up off play action.

The frame is pro ready and the physical tools jump. He runs through arm tackles, has enough burst to clear the second level, and he has shown flashes as a pass protector and outlet receiver. In a room that has been searching for an identity, Young gives Colorado a north south answer that pairs well with the speed backs already on campus and the portal additions who know the system.

There is more work to do as the roster settles, but this is a clear step toward a tougher run game. If the line gels, Richard Young has the tools to be the tone setter the Buffs have been missing.
