Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou is proving himself as one of the key architects behind the Atlas Lions’ impressive run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, currently being contested on home soil.

Thanks to his top-level performances, the national team has now gone four consecutive matches without conceding a single goal—a first in Morocco’s history at the AFCON finals.

Rock-solid and decisive, Bounou has played a major role in Morocco’s qualification for the final, which is set for this Sunday evening at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

During this defensive streak, Morocco swept aside Zambia (3-0), edged Tanzania (1-0), overcame Cameroon (2-0), and rounded things off with a goalless draw against Nigeria (0-0).

Walid Regragui’s men are now just one match away from equaling a record held by Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire. Should they keep another clean sheet in the final against Senegal, Morocco would string together five consecutive matches without conceding a goal in a single edition, according to Opta statistics.

However, Côte d’Ivoire, nicknamed the Elephants, still hold the absolute record with six straight shutouts during the 2012 AFCON.

It’s also worth noting that Morocco boasts the tightest defense of this 2025 edition, having conceded just one goal—during the 1-1 draw with Mali in the group stage.
