Arizona signed more than 20 high school and junior college players in December, putting together a solid recruiting class that features a few players who could make instant impacts. Brandon Smith won’t be one of those, nor will he be joining the Wildcats.
Smith, a 4-star running back from Fresno, Calif., announced Saturday he’s been released from his signing with Arizona. According to Jason Scheer of 247Sports Smith is likely to end up at Cal, closer to home.
The 6-foot, 185-pound Smith committed to the UA last June, picking the Wildcats after previously choosing San Diego State. He signed in December after a stellar senior season at Central East High School where ran for 1,790 yards and 27 touchdowns and added five receiving scores.
Smith is the second member of Arizona’s 2025 signing class to pull out after the fact. Last month 3-star Texas safety Griffin Tillis did the same.
Arizona’s roster is down to six running backs for 2026, led by returning contributors Quincy Craig and Kedrick Reescano and underclassmen Cornelius Warren and Wesley Yarbrough. The Wildcats also signed ex-Marshall RB Antwan Roberts out of the transfer portal.
