Barkley eyes more after Eagles’ dominant 2024 Super Bowl season

Saquon Barkley put together a historic 2024 NFL season. The league's leading rusher was named Offensive Player of the Year and led the NFL in rushing yards with 2,005.

His team was dominant too, capping the season with a win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Barkley's first season with the Philadelphia Eagles is already being talked about as one of the best by a running back in league history.

But Barkley isn’t satisfied. The 28-year-old is hungry for more. As the Eagles open 2025 training camp, the former Penn State standout looks focused and locked in.

When asked about moving on from the Super Bowl win and whether it was hard to leave that magical run behind, Barkley’s answer was simple.

“It’s kinda easy.”

Barkley played three seasons at Penn State, scoring 53 total touchdowns before being drafted second overall in 2018. He spent his first six NFL seasons with the New York Giants and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2018.

Although he negotiated with the Giants to return, Barkley said he felt “disrespected” by their offer and even called it “a slap in the face.” He instead signed with Philadelphia on a three-year, $37.75 million deal, including $26 million guaranteed over the first two seasons.

Barkley made an immediate impact. In his Eagles debut, he ran for 109 yards and three touchdowns in a win over the Green Bay Packers. He became the first Eagles player to score three touchdowns in his debut since Terrell Owens did it in 2004. Barkley finished the season with 2,005 rushing yards, 13 rushing touchdowns and two more receiving scores.

In March, he signed a two-year, $41.2 million extension with $36 million guaranteed and up to $15 million in incentives.

Philadelphia went 14-3 in 2024, beat the Packers in the wild-card round, edged the Rams 28-22 in the divisional round and crushed the Commanders 55-23 in the NFC title game. In the Super Bowl, the Eagles never trailed the Chiefs in a 40-22 victory.

The Eagles will kick off the 2025 season on Sept. 4 at home against the Dallas Cowboys. That game marks the NFL’s regular season opener.
