Cam Ward was a much-needed highlight after Treylon Burks was injured during the Tennessee Titans' training camp.
In arguably the quietest offseason for a No. 1 overall pick in recent history, the Tennessee Titans' rookie quarterback, Cam Ward, gave fans and the NFL world exactly what they’ve been waiting for:
Flashes of promise, moments of electricity, and a glimpse into what the future might look like under center in Nashville.
Yes, there were some bumps at the beginning of practice. Ward struggled early in red zone drills, particularly on a couple of tight-window throws that led to an interception.
But that’s part of the process. If anything, it’s the kind of growing pain you want to see in July, a quarterback testing his limits, learning what works and what doesn’t against NFL speed defenses.
Unfortunately, the biggest scare of the day wasn’t from a pick. It was from an injury. Treylon Burks went down hard after attempting a diving catch, landing awkwardly and immediately clutching his shoulder.
The wideout looked visibly shaken, and soon after, ESPN confirmed via their X account that Burks had suffered a broken collarbone. He’s expected to miss multiple weeks.
Still, the Titans may not be left scrambling. That’s largely because Ward seems to already be building chemistry with his new veteran target, Calvin Ridley.
“That boy there is different,” Ward said with a smile, nodding toward Ridley. “I ain’t never threw to no receiver like him. Who move like him, can cut like him. And that boy, he ain’t selfish either. He wants the rookies, all of us, he want us to do better than him.”
While Ward to Ridley might be the duo grabbing headlines, Bryce Oliver quietly turned in one of the best days of any skill player on the field.
The second-year receiver caught everything thrown his way and showcased the kind of reliability and burst that could earn him a serious role in this offense sooner rather than later.
For a fanbase that’s been looking for something, anything, to get excited about since the days of Steve McNair, Tennessee’s practice felt like a beginning. A beginning led by a quarterback who’s unafraid to take chances, a veteran receiver ready to lead, and a few young guys eager to prove they belong.
And most importantly, it felt like hope.
