Things got heated after the Buzzer in Knoxville.
The Kentucky Wildcats (12-6) came back down 17 points on the road at Thompson-Boiling Arena to knock off the No.24 Tennessee Volunteers (12-6) by a final score of 80-78. The Wildcats came out on top, but after the buzzer, things got a little heated.
The Volunteers couldn’t capitalize on the purposely missed free throw with a couple of seconds to go. After the Vols failed to tie the game and the clock hit double zeros, Jaylen Cary shoved Otega Oweh, and both benches cleared.
Mark Pope, Rick Barnes, and both coaching staffs did an excellent job of not letting the scuffle escalate too far.
After things settled down, Pope and Barnes spoke to each other and were off to the locker room. No handshake line was done after the Wildcats captured their third straight in Knoxville.
A big week for Pope and Co. ends in dramatic fashion. Two Quad I victories and two big-time comeback wins for the Cats will provide a major boost to that resume come Selection Sunday time.
The Wildcats are back at home on Wednesday to host the Texas Longhorns. The game is set to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. on the SEC Network.
