Warren Sapp may be on Deion Sanders’ Colorado coaching staff these days, but that didn’t stop the Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend from cracking jokes when Coach Prime showed up in his old NFL stomping grounds.

Earlier this week, Sanders made a surprise visit to the Buccaneers' training camp, where his son, Shilo Sanders, is working out. The visit generated plenty of buzz, but no one delivered a funnier reaction than Sapp, who saw the moment on Instagram and fired off a classic one-liner in the comments:

"That's illegal my G @deionsanders can not form a weapon!! What a Joke"

Sapp’s comment was a playful jab at the sight of Deion posing with his son, wearing shades and flashing a muscle-flex pose. As two of the NFL’s most iconic personalities, the Sanders-Sapp connection brings together Hall of Fame swagger and current college football buzz.

Sapp, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame two years after Sanders in 2013, joined Coach Prime’s Colorado staff last offseason, bringing his defensive mind and vocal energy to Boulder.

Deion’s visit to Tampa wasn’t just about football, either — it was a family moment as well. Shilo, who transferred from Jackson State to Colorado along with his dad, continues to work toward his NFL dreams after signing with the Bucs as an undrafted free agent.

Tampa’s camp offers a unique chance to train, put his play on tape and connect with pros for more opportunities, as the young Sanders appears to be a long shot to make the roster.

When Will Deion Return to Colorado?

Coach Prime’s trip to Tampa comes as he continues to recover from a health setback that required multiple procedures on his foot and leg. Deion Sanders has been dealing with ongoing blood flow issues that stem from previous surgeries and complications. This offseason, he underwent further treatment, which has limited his physical presence with the Buffaloes.

Sanders has remained largely out of the spotlight and away from the Colorado football program this offseason. In a recent video shared by his son, Sanders admitted he’s “not all the way recovered,” despite being seen playing basketball and working out with his daughter, Shelomi Sanders, who plays for the Alabama A&M Bulldogs women's basketball team.

Sanders, who has a history of serious health problems, including blood clots and past surgeries, has been recovering at his home in Texas and has avoided discussing his condition publicly. While Sanders brushed off health questions at Big 12 Media Days, Colorado athletic director Rick George said Sanders is expected back on campus within weeks.

When he returns, Sanders will lead a new-look Buffaloes team without his sons Shedeur and Shilo and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, entering a critical training camp headlined by a quarterback competition between freshman Julian Lewis and transfer Kaidon Salter.

According to his latest updates, Deion Sanders is expected to return to Colorado’s facility in full capacity by early August, just ahead of fall camp. His medical team has cleared him for travel in short stints, like his Tampa visit, but the long-term goal remains being on the sideline when the Buffs kick off their 2025 season at 8 p.m. ET Aug. 29 at home against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
