Enquirer names Cincinnati high school athletes of the week for Jan. 16

Cincinnati.com readers selected the Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine's Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Jan. 11.

In a vote that ended Jan. 16, Cincinnati.com readers selected the 2025-2026 Cincinnati Enquirer/Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Jan. 11.

Ohio big-school boys basketball team:Princeton – The Vikings are riding a six-game winning streak with a 49-45 win over Hamilton.

Ohio small-school boys basketball team:Eastern Brown – Eastern remains undefeated at 10-0 after knocking off Peebles and cruising past Ripley.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys basketball team:Ryle – Ryle has won four in a row, with three wins last week coming against Beechwood, Boone County, and Newport Central Catholic.

Ohio big-school girls basketball team:Seton – The Saints hit 10 straight wins last week, edging out Oak Hills, 46-44, and beating Mercy McAuley, 53-27.

Ohio small-school girls basketball team:Wyoming – Wyoming is on a four-game winning streak following wins against Finneytown and Reading.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls basketball team: East Central – A pair of wins over New Castle and Rushville moved East Central to 16-2 on the season.

Boys winter team: Sycamore swimming – At the Princeton Invitational, Sycamore took first place with 488 total team points.

Girls winter team:Sycamore swimming – The Aviators scored 544 points at the Princeton Invitational, taking first place by 256 points.

Ohio big-school boys basketball: Blake Carrigan, Loveland – He had 20 points including three 3-pointers and four rebounds in a 59-50 league win over Kings.

Ohio small-school boys basketball: Jack Huwel, Indian Hill – He had 28 points and 11 rebounds in a 57-54 win over Deer Park.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys basketball: Brady Bushman, Conner – He hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Cougars a 70-69 win over Cooper in a district seeding game.

Ohio big-school girls basketball:Sami Wade, Kings – She led the Knights to a win over Lebanon with 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Ohio small-school girls basketball:Sophia Uhl, Eastern – In two Southern Hills Athletic Conference wins, she averaged 18.5 points on 64 percent shooting from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line, four assists, five steals and five rebounds.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls basketball:Jayden McClain, Ryle – The freshman had 16 points, nine blocks and eight rebounds in a win over Dixie Heights, then had 15 points, seven rebounds and seven blocks against Boone County.

Boys big-school bowling:Xander Loos, Harrison – He averaged 219 over six games in three wins for the Wildcats, including a high game of 246 against Taylor.

Boys small-school bowling:Ziek Newton, Eastern – He had games of 223 and 203 in a win over Lynchburg-Clay.

Girls big-school bowling:Abbie Lee, Ursuline – She had games of 166 and 133 in a win over Mason.

Girls small-school bowling:Alex McDonald, Taylor – She averaged 187 in three match wins for the team.

Northern Kentucky boys archer: Bryan Lundy, Simon Kenton – He scored his personal best of 283 to help his team to second place at the Camp Ernst tournament.

Northern Kentuckygirls archer: Karina Usman, Simon Kenton – The freshman participated in her first high school tournament. She scored a 277 to help her team win second place at the Camp Ernst tournament.

Gymnast: Ella Oum, Turpin – She led Turpin to a team title at the Country Day Cup, finishing fourth overall individually with top 10 placings in each event.

Ice hockey player: Max Gerber, Moeller – He scored a pair of goals in a 5-2 win over St. Xavier, then tied a school record with six goals in a 9-5 win over Indian Hill.

Ohio boys swimming/diving:Sammy Silverman, Moeller – He took second place in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.5 seconds and fourth place in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.6 seconds at the Catholic Invitational.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys swimming/diving:Reed Spaulding, Highlands – He won the 200-yard freestyle in a season’s best time of 1:55.6 and took second place in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.37 seconds at the Scott Eagle Classic.

Ohio girls swimming/diving:Chloe Fox, Sycamore – She won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.03 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:10.99 at the Princeton Invitational.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls swimming/diving:Natalie Imhoff, Highlands – She improved two individual times at the Scott Eagle Classic, taking second place in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.92 and third place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:07.42.

Ohio boys wrestling:Josiah Puller, Wilmington – Puller had four victories, including a pin and three tech falls, to win the 138-pound title at the Bellbrook Invite.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys wrestling:Brayden Allender, Campbell County – The senior went 4-0 with a pin to claim the 285-pound bracket at the Fairfield Ron Masanek Invitational.
