This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Sidney Stewart terrorized opposing quarterbacks better than almost any other edge in the country, as the Terps built their season around a talented freshman class. His play captured plenty of attention nationally, earning him FWAA 2025 Freshman All-American honors on Wednesday.
This comes days after Stewart was listed by ESPN as one of the top 25 freshmen in the nation, landing in the 19th slot. The 6-foot-2, 255 pound lineman grabbed seven sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss on the year, all while playing with nagging injuries.
Stewart was one of two standout freshmen on Maryland’s line, along with fellow edge Zahir Mathis. Mathis logged six sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss on the year. Mathis was not named a FWAA 2025 Freshman All-American.
Despite incoming five-star freshman Zion Elee waiting in the wings, it will be far more difficult to justify benching Stewart after his latest impressive honor.
