Trevon Diggs publicly addressed the Dallas Cowboys’ frustration with his offseason decisions, specifically his decision to undergo injury rehab far from the franchise's facilities instead of doing it in-house.

The cornerback was the subject of multiple pointed remarks from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones this week, stemming from Diggs' choice for rehabbing his torn ACL in Florida rather than at the team’s facility in Frisco.

That choice, as stated in Diggs' contract, came at a cost as the Cowboys docked Diggs nearly $500,000 from his base salary.

“We expect a player paid like Trevon to be here all the time," Jones said. "We expect him to be leading. That’s not new… You’ve got to have some leadership about you.”

“He understood when he decided he was going to train in South Florida, he understood what the consequences would be,” Stephen Jones added.

Diggs, speaking to reporters at training camp in Oxnard, acknowledged the financial hit but made sure to make clear how he plans to make up for that.

"No, I didn't expect that," Diggs said. "That kind of hurt my feelings. But it's OK. Hopefully, I make it back in incentives."

Although Diggs showed up for mandatory minicamp earlier in the offseason, avoiding roughly $100,000 in fines, he still missed enough time to trigger the contract de-escalator.

“They do a great job here,” Diggs said. “I just felt like it was in my best interest to go somewhere to get the full, undivided attention I needed… to better and further my career.”

Diggs will earn $8.5 million this season as part of the five-year extension he signed with the Cowboys in 2023. Aligning with what the cornerback said at training camp, his deal includes an interception-related incentive for the 2025 season.
