Bayern Munich Alumni: FC Barcelona’s Hansi Flick says Xabi Alonso has great future after leaving Real Madrid

The former FC Bayern boss took no joy from watching Xabi Alonso get sacked.

When Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid parted ways earlier this week, it came at the hands of Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona after the Catalans emerged victorious in the Supercopa de España.

Clearly, that was the final nail in the coffin for Alonso’s coaching career in Madrid, but — as we would find out — things were exceedingly bad between the coach and some of the players in locker room for quite a while.

For Flick, there was no special honor in being the coach to take Alonso out. In fact, Flick has a lot of admiration for Alonso.

“This is football. It’s not something I’m worried about. I have a very good relationship with Xabi, we knew each other from his time at Leverkusen and we kept in touch. He’s a fantastic coach. This is football. I wish him all the best. We have to move on and think about what and how to improve. But he’s a fantastic coach and I’m sure he has a great future,” said Flick (as captured by Madrid Xtra).

Flick, who is no stranger to unceremonious exits, probably sympathized a bit with Alonso, though he was not going to show too much remorse to his club’s sworn enemy. As Flick said, Alonso will now move on, sort through what went wrong, and try to find a way to move forward.
