We’ve predicted a quiet January for Chelsea all season, and so had all of the well sources insiders and journalists who speak to people at the club.
Well, that’s all changed. Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph has just dropped a piece claiming that Chelsea are “ready to make a move for a new defender” this month to give new manager Liam Rosenior “a boost” to his start in charge.

Chelsea are said to be looking for a defender who can play out from the back. Jeremy Jacquet and Jacobo Ramon are both mentioned by Law in this piece.
Of course we’re in favour of this idea if they can find a top option on the market. But you’ll forgive us if we’ve lost a little faith in those doing the scouting at this stage. Their record with centre backs is particularly egregious, hence how we found ourselves in this position in the first place.
It should also be remembered that centre backs Mamadou Sarr and Aaron Anselmino are on the books and should joining the squad next summer. Their potential was one of the reasons that Enzo Maresca was denied in his requests to sign a defender in the summer when Levi Colwill picked up his injury.
We wonder how Maresca feels about all this now?
In other news…
Liam Rosenior has admitted it will take a while to get players to where he wants them to be in terms of playing his football – and some of his comments will worry fans a little bit.
Rosenior’s update post game on five players who were out of the squad tonight was not ideal – but we have a better idea of which of the group will be ready to face Brentford on Saturday.
