Luigi Mangione is about to have some family nearby.

His cousin, Peter Mangione, 24, has signed a contract with Brooklyn FC, the soccer team announced on Thursday, January 15.

Luigi, 27,  is currently behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting trial after being charged with the December 2024 murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, for which he has pleaded not guilty. His father and the soccer midfielder’s father are brothers, part of a prominent Maryland family.

Peter attended Penn State and began his MLS career with FC Cincinnati 2, and has now moved up to the USL Championship league team.

“He brings a balanced midfield profile to Brooklyn, with the engine to cover ground and the end product to impact matches in the final third,” his new team said on their website.

Peter will make his debut on March 8 at the team’s Coney Island home turf, Maimonides Park, about 20 minutes from where Luigi is locked up.
