SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Rams and Rambelles return to the Junell Center to face UT Dallas on Thursday, Jan 15.

The Angelo State Rams and Rambelles have hit difficult stretches recently in navigating a stacked Lone Star Conference.

The Rambelles had their two-game winning streak snapped Tuesday in a 76-67 loss versus UT Permian Basin, falling to 3-5 in LSC play. Four of those losses, however, were decided by single-digit margins. If there’s one player who has especially shined on the court lately, it’s Majik Esquivel. She has scored 20 or more points in each of the last four games, including a career-high 38 against Oklahoma Christian last Saturday. Head coach Alesha Ellis is thrilled with Esquivel’s recent heroics.

“[Esquivel’s] got way more time than she thinks on some of those shots,” Ellis said. “She just took her time and shot the ball like she knew how to [last] weekend. I’m hoping that continues, and we know that not every shot is going to go in, but that should give us a spark as a team to know that we’ve got that kind of leader on our team.”

The Rams subsequently take the court Thursday night, feeling rejuvenated after a snapping a three-game losing streak Tuesday with an 80-77 win over UT Permian Basin. Three Rams reached double figures, including double-doubles from Zyon Little and Jhordan Ryan to propel their injury-plagued team. The Rams had only eight players available Tuesday night, and despite all the adversity, head coach Vinay Patel’s squad just keeps fighting.

“Our guys are giving us everything they’ve got and it’s something that at the end of the day, I can say I’m proud of because they are competing at such a high level,” Patel said. “When you take injuries, it’s stuff that’s out of your hands. We can’t control who gets hurt, when they get hurt, the timing and when they’re back. We can’t control that stuff. I tell our guys all the time, all I can control is the guys that are available to us to coach and to play.”

The Rambelles tip off their matchup versus UT Dallas at 5:30 p.m. CST on Thursday, Jan 15 while the Rams follow at 7:30 p.m. CST.
