Malachi Moreno wasn’t even supposed to get the ball on buzzer-beater at LSU

The ball found Moreno, and he struck gold.

Sometimes, you end up in the right place at the right time. That was the case for Malachi Moreno Wednesday night in Baton Rouge.

Moreno’s buzzer-beater jump shot gave Kentucky Basketball a much-needed 75-74 win over LSU, evening Kentucky’s record at 2-2 in the SEC and improving its overall record to 11-6. The crazy part of it all is that Moreno wasn’t even the primary option on the buzzer-beating play.

Moreno made a tough catch, calmly turned around, and unleashed a long two that found nothing but net and set off a wild celebration for the Wildcats. It was the culmination of another special night for Moreno, finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists, a block, and two steals.

Consider Chandler’s pass to Moreno was Grant Hill-to Christian Laettner-esque. It was an incredible pass, even if it wasn’t intended to be to Moreno as he hit the shot.

Sometimes, luck has to be created. Moreno created luck for the Wildcats on a night they badly needed a win.
