Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has hit out at Florentino Perez over the way he runs the club, ruling with an iron fist.

This comes after the Merengues decided to part ways with Xabi Alonso as manager, following the Spanish Super Cup defeat against FC Barcelona in Saudi Arabia.

Calderon, who was president of the Spanish capital club between 2005 and 2009, accused Perez of intervening and deciding everything, regardless of the area of the club concerned.

Calderon believes that the Spanish Super Cup final won by Barcelona could just as easily have gone Real Madrid’s way, and that the outcome might then have been different for the future of Xabi.

“They could have drawn or even won easily. The performance was not bad,” he said in an interview with Stats Perform, before adding: “However, in the end, it seems it was the president’s decision to sack him.”

He then took aim at Perez’s interventionism, saying: “There is no sporting director nor a real structure of sporting or football advice at Real Madrid. Therefore, it is the president who makes the decisions and reverses them as he pleases.”

“He runs the club as he pleases,” Calderon said.

Laying the blame at Perez’s feet for the poor squad planning, he added: “From my point of view, the squad planning may not have been optimal, because the midfield clearly suffered after the departures of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

“I would have asked the sporting director at the time, Predrag Mijatovic, because he and his team were responsible for sporting decisions. They are the ones who know, or knew, how things work.”
