Falcons Fans have waited nearly eight months to enjoy some NFL football. Players report today, and camp kicks off to the public tomorrow. What are some of the most critical position battles about to take place in Flowery Branch, Georgia?

Many things can happen during an intense NFL training camp. Injuries can occur, or a dark horse may come out of the shadows to earn a roster spot. One thing is for sure. Position battles will ensue when players are trying not only to make the active roster but also to become a household name. Others will be content to stick around on the practice squad as well.

A position of interest will be at nickel cornerback. Dee Alford owned this position last year, but after a less-than-stellar year full of errors and lapses, he now finds himself fighting for his spot again. Whoever it may be, Atlanta will have a lot to consider. The team drafted Billy Bowman Jr. out of Oklahoma and fully expects him to be a viable option for this position.

UDFA Natrone Brooks and Clark Phillips will also be names to watch for defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. Another UDFA who was initially thought to be a mid-round draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft is fan favorite Cobee Bryant. Bryant is one of the undrafted rookies who is expected by many to make the active 53-man roster during camp.

The kicker position will be another intriguing battle to watch this summer. For the first time in Atlanta, Younghoe Koo will have his hands full this time around, trying to beat out German kicker Lenny Krieg, who Atlanta signed to a three-year deal this offseason. Koo went from being the most reliable option in the NFL to a liability who was inconsistent until he went out with an injury.

The three-year deal given to Krieg means that Koo will have to regain his confidence and must take the position battle seriously if he wants to make the 53-man roster at the end of camp.
