Tottenham injuries deepen as pressure mounts on Thomas Frank
Tottenham’s season continues to be shaped by injuries, an ever growing list that now threatens to define the coming weeks. The FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa, a 2-1 loss that brought frustration and scrutiny in equal measure, was followed by fresh physical setbacks. For Thomas Frank, already facing a demanding run of fixtures, the situation feels increasingly unforgiving.
Injuries have disrupted rhythm, reshaped line ups and forced Spurs into constant reassessment. As attention turns to a crucial league meeting with West Ham, the state of Tottenham’s squad feels as important as tactics or form.
Rodrigo Bentancur setback worsens Tottenham concerns
Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury may prove the most damaging of all. The midfielder suffered a hamstring problem against Bournemouth on January 7 and was replaced late on, a moment that immediately raised alarm inside the club.
“Rodri has a hamstring injury – looks like a bigger one, unfortunately,” Frank said. “We don’t know the time frame. That we will know later.”
Subsequent scans have offered little encouragement. Reports from Uruguay suggest Bentancur could be sidelined for at least three months, depriving Tottenham of composure and control in midfield. His absence removes not only quality but leadership, at a point when Spurs badly need both.
Richarlison fitness worries highlight fixture strain
Richarlison’s latest injury only adds to the sense of exhaustion surrounding Tottenham’s campaign. The forward limped off against Villa holding his hamstring, an all too familiar sight given his recent history.
“I think we have done a lot of things right to get him where he is now; I think he has done a lot of things right,” Frank said.

Frank widened the discussion beyond his own squad, pointing to the relentless demands of the calendar.
“It’s not only about us, it’s about every club. I think there are a few injuries across the Premier League.
“I think it’s something for the football authorities to look into as well. We played five games in 13 days, four in 10, that’s one of the few clubs that did that, and this is our third time this season.
“That’s the most tricky thing with two days in between. We are dealing with it, we are doing everything we can to compete in it, but that’s a tough schedule.”
Richarlison is still being assessed, with no clear return date in place.
Udogie and Bergvall race to be ready
There is cautious hope around Destiny Udogie and Lucas Bergvall. Udogie has missed eight matches with a hamstring issue but is edging closer to a comeback, potentially against West Ham. Bergvall, meanwhile, picked up a knock in the 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth and was absent again at Villa.
“Lucas is being assessed today,” Frank said. “We will know more later today with him.”
Both remain doubts, reminders of how fragile Tottenham’s resources currently are.
Long term absences reshape Tottenham outlook
Further forward, Mohammed Kudus will not return until after the March international break, while Dejan Kulusevski continues his recovery from a complicated patella problem. James Maddison’s ACL injury rules him out for the season entirely.
Tottenham’s injury crisis is no longer a subplot. It is the story.
