Indiana has locked in one of its key defenders in 2024 and 2025 as a returner for the 2026 season.
A key piece of Indiana’s defense throughout its historic run through the 2025 regular season, Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff is set to return in 2026.
Amare Ferrell, one of the Hoosiers’ starting safeties, has re-signed to remain with the program through his senior season in 2026, per reporting from Max Olson of ESPN. It’s a substantial retention for the program as Indiana looks to maintain momentum and stick around the top of the sport.
Ferrell is one of the more interesting players on the team. He signed with the Hoosiers as a member of the high school recruiting class of 2023 under former head coach Tom Allen. A 4-star prospect ranked as one of the better defensive backs nationally by Rivals, he was the lone member of said recruiting class not to redshirt as a true freshman in 2023. He remained on the roster following the firing of Allen and through the hiring of Curt Cignetti and has started every game in the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
He’s totaled 105 tackles (56 solo) with seven passes defended, 1.5 sacks and eight interceptions through three seasons. He’s currently at second in interceptions on the 2025 season with four, just behind fellow safety Louis Moore with six.
